Mission Trip to Puerto Rico
-- 2 Corinthians 9:8 NIV
This November, a team of 15 volunteers are traveling to Dorado, Puerto Rico, partnering with Hunger Corp to restore the home of Pepito (Waico). You can learn more about Pepito's story below.
We believe a home is far more than walls and a roof—it represents safety, dignity, and stability. When we rebuild a home, we aren't just restoring a structure; we are helping create a space where a family experiences lasting care and hope.
Our purpose is simple...
-
Serving with Intent: We aim to reflect the love of Jesus through tangible action, ensuring every person we meet feels truly seen, valued, and cared for.
-
Faith in Action: When ordinary people make themselves available to an extraordinary God, He accomplishes far more than we ever could on our own.
-
Community Restoration: Through hands-on rebuilding, every conversation and shared moment becomes an opportunity to bring honor to His name.
We believe that when ordinary people make themselves available to an extraordinary God, He can do far
more than we could ever accomplish on our own.
Waico is a 65-year-old resident of Dorado, Puerto Rico, who has called his neighborhood on Calle Sur home since 1990. After the passing of his parents and older brother, he now lives alone, and while quiet loneliness can be a heavy reality for him, his heart for his neighbors remains remarkably full.
Known throughout the community as a selfless and deeply generous friend, Waico is always the first to offer a helping hand. He regularly assists with maintenance and upkeep at Gallery—the property Hunger Corp uses to house volunteers—tending to the grounds and keeping an eye on the property. His presence has made him a fixture of daily life for the team, and his support extends far beyond maintenance. From pitching in on hands-on projects at El Patio to organizing and delivering groceries to local hostels, Waico serves his community with quiet dedication.
Despite his constant willingness to care for others, living on his own has brought challenges, including a struggle with hoarding that has made managing his living space difficult over the years. Now, our mission team has the distinct privilege of stepping in for someone who continuously gives to everyone else. By coming alongside Waico to help restore and refresh his home residence, we hope to provide him with a safer, more peaceful space.
The Reality on the Ground
Behind these walls lies a space worn down by years of hardship, structural damage, and overwhelming clutter that no longer feels like a peaceful, safe home. Yet, where others see despair, we see an opportunity to bring back hope, dignity, and a fresh start.
Our hope is that every person we encounter experiences the love of Jesus—not simply through what we say, but
through the way we serve. We pray that our actions reflect His love and bring glory to His name. And that,
through every conversation, act of service, and shared moment, people feel seen, valued, and cared for.
We pray that God would work in and through each of us throughout this journey. We hope He teaches us that
sometimes the greatest ministry happens in the simplest moments: sitting with someone, listening to their story,
working alongside them, sharing a meal, praying together, or simply showing up.
Our prayer is that every volunteer experiences spiritual growth throughout this journey and that none of us
returns home exactly the same person we were when we left. We pray that this trip leaves a lasting impact on
every person and community we have the privilege of serving.
Thank you so much for taking the time to keep our mission trip in your prayers. We truly appreciate your support and encouragement. As we prepare for this mission, our greatest desire is not only to be ready physically and logistically, but also to be spiritually prepared. We ask that you pray God would shape our hearts, strengthen our faith, and prepare each team member for the work He has called us to do. Please pray that He would use us to be His hands and feet, sharing His love with everyone we encounter.
✅ Pray that God prepares each team member’s heart so that it is in the right place to glorify God and help grow His kingdom. Pray that the Mission helps people and team members get closer to God.
✅ Pray that God gives the team members wisdom and the capacity to work together before, during, and after the mission. Pray that we glorify God in the process.
✅ Pray for unity among team members and among Hunger leadership before, during, and after the mission trip.
✅ Pray that we are able to touch many people’s lives through worship, example/testimony, and acts of service/works.
✅ Pray that God transforms our lives and that the mission leaves a long lasting impression in our hearts and the hearts of the local people.
✅ Praise God because he is the ultimate provider, we are FULLY FUNDED and financially ready to go to PR! Not only that, but He has blessed us in a way that exceeded our basic needs. Thanks to Him, we are able to have an emergency fund, to save some money for our next missionary trip and to sponsor 2 more people.
We truly appreciate our generousity!
